We offer four different types of classes for adults who are seeking to learn in a safe, welcoming environment. All classes are taught by professional educators who respect the adult learners’ experiences and background knowledge.

1. Our Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes focus on reading, writing, math, and spelling skills that are related to employment and personal growth.  The books and materials are written specifically for adult learners and include science, history, current events, and other topics that adults find interesting.

2. Our English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are designed to help adult learners develop their knowledge and skills in English speaking, listening, reading and writing.  The books and materials used for class are specifically developed for adult learners and include topics that support second language learners in their everyday lives.

3. Our High School Equivalence (HSE) classes* are designed to prepare adults for the HiSET exam ( This exam includes five separate sections: reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science. Class materials include books, other print resources, and an online program specifically designed for HiSET preparation.

*We are not able to have HiSET testing at CLC at this time. However, we will still have our classes and students may take the exams at other locations in the city.

4. Our U.S. Citizenship classes introduce immigrants to historical and cultural information used on the Naturalization Test and explore the steps of the naturalization process (incorporated in Fall of 2020).

Our ESL classes for resettled members of OKC refugee communities are offered in partnership with Oklahoma City Public Schools. They are designed to introduce learners to English speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The books and materials used are specifically developed for new English learners.
