Press Release - Spring into Literacy with Community Literacy Centers!
OKLAHOMA CITY - Community Literacy Centers, Inc. (CLC) will be hosting the Spring into Literacy! neighborhood event, a literacy festival and open house, on Monday, April 20th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at CLC, located at 3707 South Blackwelder Avenue in Oklahoma City.
There will be free food, drinks, games, prizes, and drawings. In addition, the Oklahoma City Thunder book bus will be making a stop, and Smart Start of Central Oklahoma will be giving away free books.
By attending the Spring into Literacy! neighborhood event, you can learn more about CLC, how you can team up with them to help those in need of literacy services, and find out more about CLC's current and upcoming class offerings.
According to the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, nearly 140,000 Oklahoma City adults have limited literacy skills, meaning they have trouble reading a newspaper, street signs, filling out an application form, or accessing health information and services. More than 400,000 Oklahomans statewide are functionally illiterate, meaning they read at or below a fifth grade level.
"By hosting the Spring into Literacy! neighborhood event, we hope to reach out to our neighbors and those who need help learning to read, as well as members of the Oklahoma City community," said Becky O'Dell, executive director for Community Literacy Centers.
To sign up for the event, for more information, to volunteer, or to find out how you can enroll in classes, call CLC at 405.524.7323.
