Last year, with the support of many partners, Community Literacy Center’s fundraising luncheon, Literacy Live helped to combat the critical need in our community to teach 400,000 Oklahoma adults to read and become self-sufficient. With your support, we continue our fight each day.
We invite you to please join us on Friday, March 30, 2012 for the 3rd Annual Literacy Live featuring Guest Speaker Jim Morris, better known as The Rookie, as played by Dennis Quaid in the Disney film biography of Jim’s life.
High school teacher and baseball coach Jim Morris thought his dream was over. He'd had his shot playing baseball, blew out his shoulder, and retired without ever reaching the big leagues. Then, in 1999, he made a bet with his perpetually losing team: If they won the district championship, Morris -- who threw a 98 mph fastball -- would try out for the majors. The team went from worst to first, and Jim was soon on the road to becoming the oldest rookie in the major leagues, playing for the former Tampa Bay Devil Rays!
We are also thrilled to announce this year’s honorees and hope you will join us in recognizing each for their outstanding service in quietly helping change lives in our community every day.
