Volunteer!

Volunteer adult literacy tutors make a valuable contribution to Oklahoma City. They help adults with reading, writing, and mathematics to increase the learner’s employability, parenting skills, and other abilities. They forge relationships with adult learners that often last a lifetime. CLC provides training, support, and also supplies a tutor location.

How will I know what to teach my learner?

Volunteer tutors needn’t be professional teachers. They’re people who want to help other adults improve their basic literacy skills. CLC will provide tutor training at our center. Training consists of four sessions, for a total of 10 hours, and offers an introduction to the basics of adult learning. Upon completion of training, you will receive your certificate of completion from CLC and will be paired with a learner.

Training Workshops

Tutor training orientation and workshops are scheduled throughout the year. Orientation is required before attending any other certification classes. Potential tutors may attend sessions when convenient. However, all must be completed before receiving tutor certification.

Where will I tutor?

Once you have completed your training and are ready to tutor, we will provide you with a place to tutor at our center. You may also tutor at another CLC tutor location.

How much time will I have to give?

CLC asks tutors to spend a few hours a week with their learners for at least a six month period.
