Literacy Live 2013
Literacy Live, Community Literacy Center’s biggest event, is back for its fourth season. It’s been a big hit so far. Speaking of hits, on April 1, Lisa Whelchel will be this year’s Literacy Live luncheon featured speaker. As many of you will recall, Lisa was a star of one of the most popular television shows of the 1980s, The Facts of Life. More recently, she was voted the fans’ favorite contestant of the season on Survivor, one of television’s most popular and enduring reality shows.
At Literacy Live, Lisa is partnering with Community Literacy Centers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching adults how to read and helping make our community aware of the more than 140,000 adults in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area who are considered functionally illiterate.
Just like Lisa, our students are survivors. To date, we’ve helped more than 30,000. They’ve all had to swallow their pride and overcome their fears just to walk through our doors and ask for help to learn to read. Once in class, they’ve had to overcome learning difficulties, self-esteem issues, and they’ve had to learn to be persistent in focusing on their goals to provide better lives for themselves and their families.
We’re proud of the work we’ve done. But we want to reach more who need our help and to do that we need your help.
If you’ve sponsored Literacy Live in the past, please help us again with a sponsorship. If this is your first opportunity, please consider the various levels of sponsorship available and decide which best fits your budget. Everything you need to choose your level of sponsorship is here.
If you have any questions, please call Becky O’Dell at (405) 524-7323 or this season’s Literacy Live co-chair, Leslie Wilkerson, at (405) 218-4656. We are available to answer any questions or make special arrangements.
Please join us at the Will Rogers Theatre on April 1st for Literacy Live 2013!
